Purchasing Manager - Agawam, MA

We are looking for a seasoned and technologically competent Purchasing & Planning Manager. The right individual will be responsible for production planning as well as forecasting, negotiating, and purchasing direct materials associated with production as well as indirect materials.   Metrics include quality, on-time delivery, maintaining optimum inventory levels and negotiating cost effective pricing.  

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Team of 2 purchasing department direct reports.

Essential Functions:

  • Maintain and develop supplier relationships/partnerships.
  • Negotiate with suppliers to obtain best possible delivery, quality, and price.
  • Enter purchase orders into the system, ensure receipt of order acknowledgement/confirmations and verify costs.
  • Verify and process purchase order receipts and return of materials as needed.
  • Reconcile inventory as needed to physical counts and prepare and submit inventory reports.
  • Utilize business system and develop a method for forecasting material demand while preventing stock shortages and maintaining high inventory turns.
  • Identify, communicate, and mitigate any potential lead time issues.
  • Set up and maintain inventory codes, vendor information and pricing.
  • Work closely with production and sales departments to ensure proper communication and planning.
  • Manage and develop direct reports.

        Sales Estimator - Agawam, MA

        The Sales Estimator will provide world class customer service to our internal and external customers by coordinating all activities associated with the sales support and estimating function for the Architectural Market sectors.  This will include all activities related to quoting a project, securing orders for the project, and creating paperwork for manufacturing to build the product. This position is responsible for wrapping various materials to create architectural panels.   This ideal candidate enjoys being part of a team working in a fast-paced environment, has attention to detail and is a conscientious, self-starter requiring minimal direction.   This position is full time, and the right candidate must be extremely reliable.

        Responsibilities:

        • Set project to specifications selecting and cutting fabric to cover fiberglass filler.
        • Spray adhesive and wrap fabric to specs ensuring no defects and bubbles adjusting as needed.
        • Responsible for monitoring product quality.
        • Boxing finished product following prescribed procedures.

        Essential Functions:

        • Minimum 18 years of age.
        • Basic English reading/writing skills preferred.
        • Must be able to work quickly with your hands.
        • Ability to read and execute printed drafts and specifications.

        Sound Seal, a local manufacturing company is seeking an experienced quilting machine operator with industrial manufacturing experience. The Quilting Machine Operator attends one or more automatic, multiple needles sewing machines ("quilters") that quilt layers of materials used to make quilted industrial panels.   This ideal candidate enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, has attention to detail and is a conscientious, self-starter requiring minimal direction.  This position is full time.  The right candidate must be extremely reliable.

        Responsibilities:

        • Sets up and operates quilting machine to sew fiberglass filler to various materials to produce quilted layer.  Loads film and batting onto machine feed.
        • Adjusts slitter knives to specified width of finished material and pushes buttons to activate machine, inspecting quilted fabric for defects and adjusts control settings to correct defects.  Restarts machine and observes feeding, positioning, stitching, and winding operations to detect malfunctions.
        • Uses rod to fold finished product and labels boxes following prescribed procedures.
        • Carries new rolls of fiberglass and various quilting layers, as well as using lift to organize boxes of finished product to specified storage area.

        Working with the team to assemble finished materials based on production CAD drawings. Produce to Takt time, while recording accurate material usage history and labor times on a per-job or per-part basis. Must produce first quality goods with minimum amount of re-work.
