Did you know…that July 18 is World Listening Day? We recognize that while this isn’t necessarily a Hallmark holiday, we’d still encourage you to celebrate, nonetheless. To that end, and in honor of the observation, we thought we would share some interesting statistics that might surprise you.
Listening…By the Numbers
-
20,000–30,000 – The number of words the average person hears every day
-
70% – The daily amount of time spent engaged in some form of communication
-
55% – The daily percentage of time devoted to listening
With such compelling stats, it makes sense that by taking steps to improve acoustics in a space, some of the following results could be realized:
- Improved focus
- Improved speech intelligibility
- Improved recall
Students, in particular, can benefit from improved acoustics. Afterall, much of their school day centers around listening.
Here’s another statistic for you to consider: more than 60% of misunderstood information stems from poor listening, not the inability to comprehend the information. If you can imagine yourself sitting in a loud classroom, it isn’t too hard to imagine that this is true.
